If you plan to keep a fridge freezer for a decade, the Liebherr CNsdb 5223 Plus makes a strong case despite its price. It is the only pick here rated energy class B on the current A-G scale, at roughly 201 kWh/yr, so it is the cheapest to run of the five, and at 34 dB(A) SuperSilent it is the quietest, which matters in an open-plan kitchen-diner. Its DuoCooling system uses two separate refrigeration circuits so fridge and freezer air never mix, and an EasyFresh drawer helps keep unwrapped produce fresh. A 10-year manufacturer's guarantee is available on registration, the longest cover here. It ranks just behind the Bosch only because it costs roughly twice as much for a smaller 330L body (227L fridge / 103L freezer) — you gain efficiency, quietness, twin-circuit cooling and warranty, but give up a lot of upfront cash and some fridge space. At 185.5cm tall it fits more kitchens than the 203cm Bosch and Samsung. Pricing is indicative at around £1,099 and worth re-checking.

The good & the bad

Pros

  • Best energy rating here (Class B) so cheapest to run over its life
  • Quietest on the shortlist at 34 dB(A)
  • Twin-circuit DuoCooling and up to a 10-year guarantee on registration

Cons

  • Roughly twice the price of the Bosch for a smaller 330L body
  • Overkill unless you value the efficiency, silence or longevity
