If you live inside Apple's ecosystem, the AirPods Max are uniquely convenient: instant pairing, automatic device switching and hands-free Siri all just work. Noise cancellation is strong and the spatial audio with head tracking is the best implemented here, which makes films on the commute genuinely immersive. A firmware update enabled lossless and ultra-low-latency audio over the USB-C cable, closing a long-standing gap. The trade-offs are real, though: at around 385g they are noticeably heavy for long wear, battery life of roughly 20 hours lags the field, and there is no folding design. They make most sense for committed iPhone and Mac users; Android owners lose the ecosystem tricks and should look elsewhere.
