Colmans has been serving from Ocean Road since 1926, with the family's involvement in the fish trade reaching back further still, and it's now run by the fourth generation, which tells you plenty about how consistent it is. Alongside the classic cod and haddock supper, the restaurant champions responsibly sourced and lesser-known species, and its separate Colmans Seafood Temple on the seafront broadens the offer for anyone wanting more than the standard supper. The main site is comfortable and family-friendly, service is quick, and the batter is thin and crisp in the North East style. It's a reliable, good-value choice that treats sourcing seriously without turning it into a lecture, and the smaller children's portions make it easy with younger kids.
