Honest Crust has been making sourdough pizza since 2013, when it started as a pop-up in Ramsbottom, and is credited as an early mover in Manchester's pizza revival. Its trademark is a naturally leavened base fermented for a minimum of 48 hours using a blend of Shipton Mill flours, topped with Italian tomatoes and mozzarella plus rotating specials built around named British growers and charcuterie suppliers, so the menu shifts with what is in season. It ranks third rather than higher because it operates from the communal Mackie Mayor food hall (and Altrincham Market House): the setting is a draw but you cannot reserve a private table, seating is shared and opening days can be limited. Choose it over the Neapolitan picks when you specifically want a longer-fermented, tangier sourdough crust and a lively market-hall setting.

The good & the bad

Pros

  • Distinctive 48-hour naturally leavened sourdough base from a genuine local pioneer
  • Ingredient-led, seasonal specials from named British suppliers
  • Set inside the historic Mackie Mayor food hall, a popular Manchester venue

Cons

  • Food-hall model means shared seating and no private-table bookings
  • Limited and variable opening days, so check ahead and plan for peak-time queues
