Bone Daddies helped kick off London's modern ramen obsession and still delivers some of the most characterful bowls in the city. The broths are simmered for 20 hours at its Bermondsey kitchen and the cooking isn't shy: expect assertive spicing, generous toppings and off-piste specials such as the famous Breakfast Ramen. It trades a little authenticity for personality, but the cooking is genuinely good and the atmosphere, communal tables, a decent drinks list and a soundtrack to match, makes it one of the most enjoyable ways to eat ramen in London. With eight branches from Soho to Bermondsey and High Street Kensington, it's also one of the easier top-tier options to get into.

The good & the bad

Pros

  • Bold, generously topped bowls built on a 20-hour house broth
  • Fun, high-energy rooms and a good drinks list
  • Eight branches make it easy to find a table

Cons

  • Prices creep up once you add extras and drinks
  • Not the place for quiet, purist authenticity
