Drayton Wiser sits just behind tado° because it matches most of the flexibility without ever charging a subscription — Drayton confirms you get the benefits 'without any additional charges'. Kit 1 is aimed at combi boilers and contains the 1-channel Wiser HubR, wallplate, Room Thermostat, bracket and stand; system-boiler homes with a cylinder step up to Kit 2 or Kit 3 for hot-water and two-zone control. It scales impressively for the money, supporting up to 16 rooms and 63 Wiser devices via smart radiator TRVs, and carries a 3-year warranty. Official pricing is an indicative £195 (frequently out of stock), but it commonly sells around £141 at retailers when available. Install is a roughly 20-minute DIY job on the industry-standard wallplate, and it works with Alexa and Google Assistant. The trade-off versus tado° is platform and polish: it runs on Zigbee rather than tado°'s newer Thread/Matter, and its geofencing is less slick — but you pay nothing to use any of it.

  • Official stock is intermittent; pricing swings between retail and RRP
