Google Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen)

The Nest Learning Thermostat remains the benchmark for design and true auto-learning — it builds a schedule from your routines and popularised UK smart heating. It's still buyable on the Google Store UK at an indicative £219 (3rd-gen Learning) and £199 for the Nest Thermostat E, while stocks last, and needs no mandatory subscription for heating control. We rank it fifth, and score its reliability and value lower, because of a genuine longevity risk rather than any hardware flaw: Google has confirmed it will not launch new Nest thermostats in Europe and is selling only remaining stock, and from 25 October 2025 the 1st/2nd-gen units lost Google Home/Nest app control. It's also a single-zone device with no cheap smart-TRV zoning path — though, via its Heat Link, the UK/EU 3rd-gen does control a hot-water cylinder on compatible systems (On/Off or OpenTherm), with hot-water scheduling and boost from the app. For committed Google Home users who want set-and-forget learning above all else it still appeals; for future-proofing, tado° or Wiser are the safer buys.
