HyperJar brings the classic envelope method into an app: you divide money into digital jars for things like groceries, travel or nights out, then spend directly from them using a single linked prepaid card. Because you can only spend what's in a jar, it's a naturally disciplined way to budget, and jars can be shared with a partner or family so everyone plans together. It's free to use, and the provider says money is held via an FCA-authorised e-money institution, with customer funds kept in segregated accounts and safeguarded under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 (e-money is not FSCS-protected, so check the provider's current terms); its currency card lets you spend abroad at Mastercard exchange rates without HyperJar adding a fee. It won't aggregate all your existing accounts like Emma, so you fund it by topping up rather than by connecting your bank. That makes it a strong choice for hands-on, zero-cost budgeting, but skip it if you mainly want to see all your existing accounts in one place - a tracker like Emma or Snoop does that instead.
The good & the bad

- Free to use with no subscription
- Envelope-style jars enforce spending discipline
- Shared jars are handy for couples and families

- Works via a prepaid card you top up rather than tracking existing accounts
