Manchester is our top pick because it does the most for the widest audience. For 2026 the market spreads more than 210 food, drink and craft stalls across several city-centre squares and streets, including a brand-new Lincoln Square location, so there is genuine variety for browsers, foodies and gift-hunters alike. Families get a big wheel back on Albert Square, an ice rink at Cathedral Gardens and a Christmas Parade, while couples get plenty to wander between. It is free to walk in, with most stalls open daily from around 10am, and Albert Square and Cathedral Gardens stay open well past the main 22 December close - through to 3 January 2027 - giving a far longer visiting window than Bath or Winchester. The trade-off against a market like Bath is intimacy: Manchester is a sprawling big-city event and unmistakably commercial, so it never feels like a picture-postcard scene.
