The Camberwell Arms
Our verdict · A produce-led neighbourhood roast served to share — the best south of the river, if you can gather a group and travel for it.

The Camberwell Arms takes British produce seriously without any fuss, and its Sunday roast is a highlight. Roasts are served as sharing platters designed for two or more, and the line-up changes weekly: expect the likes of a whole roast chicken, Middlewhite pork, hogget or onglet, carved for the table with generous sides and a lighter, more modern touch than the big central-London names. Priced per platter, they work out at roughly £24 to £29 a head, kinder than most West End roasts. Reviews describe a friendly, lively room and easygoing service. It ranks fifth because it is a share-only, weekly-changing neighbourhood roast rather than a guaranteed destination plate, but as the only pick south of the river — cheaper than most central options and produce-led — it earns its place. The trade-off is the trip south, a menu you cannot predict, and platters that suit couples and groups over solo diners.
