The Magnifica Evo is the machine we point most people towards, and for good reason. Its steel conical burr grinder offers 13 settings, the removable brew unit makes deep-cleaning painless, and the interface keeps things refreshingly simple — no wading through menus for a morning espresso. Variants come with either a manual milk wand or De'Longhi's LatteCrema auto-frothing carafe for one-touch cappuccinos and lattes, so you can choose to suit how much fuss you want and how much you'll spend. The espresso is consistently well-extracted for the price, and the whole thing is small enough to sit comfortably under most wall cabinets. It isn't the last word in luxury, and heavy milk-drinkers will want the pricier carafe model, but as a do-everything daily driver it's hard to fault.

The good & the bad

Pros

  • Excellent coffee quality for the money
  • Removable brew unit makes cleaning simple
  • Compact footprint fits most kitchens

Cons

  • Auto milk carafe only on the pricier variants
  • Small on-machine display versus premium rivals
