The Series 5400's headline act is LatteGo: a two-part, tube-free milk carafe that pulls apart and goes straight in the dishwasher, sidestepping the fiddly milk pipes that plague many rivals — one of the biggest reasons people stop making milk drinks at home. Add a 100% ceramic grinder that resists overheating the beans, a clear full-touch display and up to 12 drinks with saveable user profiles so each person in the house gets their preferred strength and length, and you have one of the most family-friendly machines around. Philips' AquaClean filter can stretch descaling out over thousands of cups. The straight espresso is solid rather than spectacular next to the Jura, and the froth is good rather than café-grade dense, but for milk-forward drinks and hassle-free daily use it's a standout.
