Dyson V12 Detect Slim
Our verdict · Most of the Dyson magic in a notably lighter, easier-to-handle body.
Buy it if
You find flagship cordless models tiring to lift and want laser detection and a particle counter without the bulk.
Skip it if
You have thick carpet throughout or a very large home, where the smaller bin and lighter motor show their limits.

The V12 Detect Slim is the pick for anyone who found earlier Dysons too heavy. At around 2.2kg it is markedly easier to carry up stairs and hold overhead, yet it keeps the headline tech: the green laser on the Fluffy head that lights up fine dust on hard floors, the piezo sensor that counts particles on the LCD, and Dyson's sealed whole-machine filtration. Run time is up to roughly 60 minutes and the 0.35L bin is smaller than the flagships, so it suits flats and small-to-medium homes better than large houses with lots of carpet. It also has less raw power in reserve than the Gen5detect, but for the money it is the most manoeuvrable serious cordless here.
The good & the bad
Pros
- Genuinely light and easy to manoeuvre on stairs and overhead
- Keeps the laser dust detection and particle-count LCD
- Sealed filtration and strong suction relative to its weight
Cons
- Smaller 0.35L bin needs emptying more often
- Less headroom on deep carpet than the Gen5detect
