Camber Sands is the South East's standout dune beach, a broad expanse of golden sand near Rye that is within easy reach of London for a day out. Dogs are welcome year-round on much of the beach, but the central section by the main car parks carries a seasonal restriction, generally from 1 May to 30 September, so heading east or west of that zone keeps things simple in summer. The dunes and shallow gradient make it family-friendly, though the very shallow, fast-filling tide has caught people out and warrants real care. For owners in the South East wanting proper sand without a long drive, it is the obvious choice.

Insider tip · Skip the pricey central car parks on hot days by parking toward the western end or in Rye and walking in — the outer sands you reach that way are dog-friendly year-round anyway.
