Regularly named among the finest beaches in Britain, Rhossili sits at the western tip of the Gower Peninsula, backed by Rhossili Down and looking out to the tidal island of Worm's Head. The huge expanse of firm sand means dogs can run freely well away from other visitors even on busy days, and there is no summer dog restriction, which is rare for a beach of this quality. The trade-off is exposure and strong currents: it is a walking and surfing beach rather than a gentle paddling spot, and the descent from the clifftop car park is steep. Come for the scenery and the space, keep an eye on the tide around Worm's Head, and you have close to the ideal UK dog beach.

Insider tip · To walk out to Worm's Head, check the safe crossing times posted at the coastguard hut first — the tidal causeway floods fast and strands walkers every year.
