Part of the Holkham National Nature Reserve, this is one of the largest and most cinematic beaches in England, with a belt of pine woods giving way to a seemingly limitless expanse of sand at low tide. Dogs are welcome year-round and the sheer scale means there is always space, though owners should keep dogs under close control near the roped-off areas protecting ground-nesting birds in spring and summer. The far tide line can be a long walk out, so it suits energetic dogs and walkers rather than a quick paddle. Combine it with nearby Wells-next-the-Sea for a classic Norfolk day out.
