If you want to annotate documents, sketch and keep handwritten notebooks as well as read, the Kindle Scribe is the most complete option here. The 10.2-inch 300ppi display is roomy enough for PDFs and textbooks, the included pen needs no charging, and writing feels natural with low latency. It syncs notes across the Kindle app and handles exported documents well. The compromises are real: at this size it is not a one-handed pocket device, there is no waterproofing, and it is the most expensive pick in this guide. As a pure reader it is overkill, but as a combined reader and digital notebook it earns its place.
The good & the bad
Pros
- Large 10.2-inch 300ppi screen ideal for PDFs and documents
- Included, no-charge stylus with low-latency, natural writing
- Doubles as a capable digital notebook with note sync
Cons
- Large and heavy for casual one-handed reading, and not waterproof
- The most expensive option here, and locked to Amazon's ecosystem
