For a beginner willing to spend a little more for depth, the vívosmart 5 brings Garmin's well-regarded wellness metrics to a slim, understated band. Its headline Body Battery feature blends heart-rate variability, stress and sleep into a single intuitive energy gauge that helps you judge when to push and when to rest — and, unusually for this kind of data, Garmin charges no subscription for it. You also get Pulse Ox, all-day stress tracking, a sleep score and the mature, reliable Garmin Connect app. The compromises are real: the monochrome OLED touchscreen looks plain next to the colour AMOLEDs elsewhere on this list, battery life is only about seven days, and at roughly £130 it costs far more than the budget bands. For the right user, though, the quality of the underlying insights justifies the premium.
