The Scarlet
Our verdict · A design-led, adults-only clifftop retreat where the wild Cornish coast does half the relaxing for you.
Book it if
You want an intimate, sustainability-minded hideaway with cliff-edge hot tubs and sea views, and you value atmosphere over a big list of facilities.
Skip it if
You need a large thermal spa with many pools, or you're travelling with children, as it's adults-only and deliberately low-key.

The Scarlet trades marble and gold for reclaimed materials, sea views and a genuinely different idea of a spa break. The natural swimming pool is filtered by reeds rather than chlorine, and the cliff-top hot tubs, booked by the session, put you above the crashing Atlantic with a glass in hand. The spa itself leans holistic and nature-led, with treatments designed to be taken slowly, and the whole hotel is built around switching off. Rooms are calm and contemporary, most with sea views or private outdoor space, and the restaurant makes the most of Cornish produce. It's adults-only by design, which keeps it peaceful, but it is not the place for anyone chasing a dozen heat rooms and an Olympic pool. Come for the setting and the feeling, not the facility count.
The good & the bad
Pros
- Adults-only, so it stays quiet and grown-up throughout
- Cliff-top wood-fired hot tubs and a reed-filtered natural pool with Atlantic views
- Serious eco credentials without sacrificing comfort or good food
Cons
- Fewer spa facilities than the big resort spas; hot tubs are booked by session
- Remote Cornish location makes it a longer journey for much of the UK
